Here's a recap of our weekend...Friday night: Brennan has youth group and Steve went to a Father's get together for the Daniel Academy. Yes, we've decided that Brennan will be going to The Daniel Academy for school next year. We had our interview, were approved, and are excited about this new chapter in our lives! Brennan's really excited to go there and is constantly meeting new kids from there. Anyway, Friday night there was a 'get together' for the Dads to just hang out and get to know each other. Steve enjoyed getting to know some of the other men, and then they had a great time of just praying together for the upcoming school year.
Saturday: Steve and the boys went in the morning to the Y to have their Orientation and Health Assessments done. Well, actually, Steve was the only one to have the health assessment done as he was the only adult. But, the Y offers complimentary health assessments every 9-12 weeks, so he decided to take advantage of that since he hasn't worked out in a gym in a long time. But, he's in great shape and the trainer was impressed, which made Steve's head just a bit big for awhile -- until.....he had to do flexibility testing! lol He knew he wouldn't be very good at it and I've encouraged him over and over to STRETCH, but now that the trainer suggested it -- go figure, he wants to do some stretching! lol Then the trainer took all of them for an Orientation on the equipment and how to use it, etc. The Y does a Teen and Tween Orientation, so the boys know how to use the equipment, what weight is right for them, etc. Once they've been through that, they're free to be on the floor with us. I'm really excited about us being able to work out as a family. In Iowa, it was always just me at the gym, so I'm excited to be able to take the boys with me when I go, or Steve and I can go to a class together, etc.
After that, we all loaded up and headed out to Hughesville, MO, to Steve's Uncle's Farm. There was a family reunion so we spent the afternoon/evening there. (The Daniel Academy Moms met that day, but I missed it since I was at the reunion, which is a bummer. But, they plan to have a few other get togethers this summer, so that'll be good! :)) It was really nice to get to see several of the cousins that we haven't seen for a few years, and get to catch up. The most 'surreal' thing was watching all of OUR kids playing together....they had a volleyball net set up and a water slide...the kids had so much fun together. But, it was just wierd to think that when I came into this family, WE were all the youngest generation pretty much, and now we've all had kids and they're ages 8 months - 13 1/2 years, and it it just a weird moment to see all the 'cousins' playing together and realize we're getting older. lol But, it was really fun and a great time talking to everyone. It's nice to only be about 75 minutes from the main gatherings for Steve's family, rather than 5 hours! :)
Upon returning home last night we got some shocking and yet exciting news: Chrissy and Matt are ENGAGED! Yep! Matt asked her to marry him yesterday! They haven't been dating that long so we were all shocked, but they're perfect for each other and are sooooooooooo happy and were just BEAMING!!! So, even though we got home late, we stayed up even LATER and listened to all the details. We marvel at God's perfect plan for this couple and how He has so faithfully brought them together! It's been a beautiful thing to watch and we're excited for all He has planned for them! :)
Today/ Sunday: We got up and went to church. To be honest, we all just kinda wanted to stay home, stay in bed, and sleep and relax, but yet wet wanted to go. So, we decided to just get up and go, and we were so glad we did. Dwayne Roberts preached this morning and talked about our nation and where we're headed and shared about the upcoming Call DC in August (www.thecall.com) and it was so challenging and provoking. About living our lives in loyalty to the Lord and just about living sold out lives for the Lord alone. He talked about where our nation is and praying for God's mercy on our nation. We were really challenged and provoked and thankful to be sitting there hearing that type of a message. We're not interested in sermons that 'tickle' our ears, but we want to be provoked, challenged, encouraged, and pressed deeper into the heart of God. This morning did just that and has caused us to re-evaluate some of our priorities and thinking, which is good!
So, that was our weekend -- busy, but good! :) Tomorrow Brennan starts the Lenexa Police Academy. It's a week long, running 8am-5pm. I think he'll really like it. It's only for teenagers and is a good way to give them a 'peek' into the police and they'll learn all kinds of stuff and have all sorts of fun in the process, too. Then on Friday they have a "Graduation Ceremony". I think it'll be good for him. :)
