They're all ready for the big day tomorrow!

Tomorrow, August 16th, is Brennan and Nate's first day of school here in the Shawnee Mission School District! :-)

Today, we met Nate's teacher, and she seemed really nice and friendly. She's younger and has only been teaching a few years and this is her 2nd year at McAuliffe Elementary. Nate liked his classroom and the class seemed smaller, under 20 even, which is really nice, since last year he was in a class of 27!

Then we went to Brennan's school. It's a huge school, 1100 students; however, that's what he had for a middle school in Ankeny, too. So, we're thankful that he's used to a large middle school; whereas most of the students will have come from the Elementary schools, which are much smaller. We walked through his whole schedule and he feels really comfortable with it all. I'm so glad things have finally straightened out with his schooling. He still doesn't have his ID, but seems ok with that, as many other kids won't either. He will be riding the bus this year, which is new and something we've never done. However, with the school being 4 miles away, and the traffic being terrible at that time, we all decided the bus will be best. Plus, it picks him up only 4 houses from us, and is all kids from our neighborhood, and only middle school students. It'll help him to meet some kids around here, too. He's actually excited about it. Although, even though he's a 7th grader, it feels like we're sending off our kindergartener on the bus for the first time! LOL

So, we're all set for the 'big day' tomorrow. Nate only has a 1/2 day the next two days, but Brennan goes full days. Oh, another good thing about Brennan's school is this year they're ONLY doing 7th grade the first day so they can get acclimated better. We're really glad about that.

Oh, but a sad thing -- Nate doesn't want his Mommy walking him into his class tomorrow -- he says he's too old for that and it isn't 'cool' anymore, so he'll say good-bye to me at the car. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........

:-)
