Martha Zelda Kruse


Martha Z. Kruse, 98, of Ogden, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, April 6, 2008, at the Boone County Hospital.

Martha Zelda Fairchild was born on December 7, 1909, in rural Boone, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ella (Cline) Fairchild. She graduated with the Boone High School class of 1927. She was employed by Lent Doran and Grant Baker during high school. Martha married Harry H. Kruse on September 30, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Beaver Township where they farmed and Martha was a housewife, until 1965 when they moved to Ogden. Martha was later employed by the Economy Store and Woodward State Hospital until 1974 when she and Harry began operating a child care business out of their home until September 1997. Harry passed away on March 1, 1998.

Martha so enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball and spending time with family and friends who she dearly loved. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, baptized and confirmed in 1934. She was also a 4-H leader for the Beaver Blue Belles for 15 years. She has enjoyed sewing quilt blocks for Zion Lutheran Mission group for the past couple years.

Survivors include two children, eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry, in 1998; a son, Melvin (Buddy) in 1938; five brothers; and seven sisters.
